  The Biggest Issue Is Not Guns—It Is Mental Health!

  crazy people shoot up places and kill people.

  take away guns and they will find knives, poison, bombs , etc.. seriously, there are a lot of mentally unhealthy people!

  I think the opening question is disgusting. Mentally ill people are more likely to be the victims of crime than the perpetrators of it.

  So called normal people carry out atrocities on a daily basis. They plan terrorist acts and plant bombs. They rob banks and murder people.

  It's easy to say a person who guns down multiple victims must be a schizophrenic or a person with psychological issues because that's how TV programmes have presented them for years (criminal minds etc) but the facts present a much different story.

  The paranormal.

  i know that a lot of the people on here have turned their backs on the idea of a deity deciding that god does not exist.

  but what about the unseen spirit world generally such as poltergeists, jinns, voodoo, etc.

  if you have become agnostic, atheist, or just don't care since leaving, do you think that there are spirits out there or have you decided that is also hokum?

  I remember a watchtower article around 1986 talked about the problem of child abuse by elders in one paragraph. But the whole thrust of the article was that they were removed because of their sins, no mention of their criminal acts.

  The WTB&TS think that they are like the nation of Israel of old, answerable only to themselves and to God. Secular authority and anyone else outside of their borders don't matter, neither do their opinions. When you believe that you are 110% correct in all things you do everything your own way. Sad to say.

  Imagine that you are in the middle of the (JWs version) Great Tribulation. Food and basic supplies are scarce, the secret and not-so-secret police are actively searching for you and your family. You have to make it to Bro Faithful's secret bunker to hunker down with the rest of the congregation. What is utmost on your mind as the male family head?

  I need to shave!

  "Daddy, the police are coming up the drive."

  "Shush child, I have to finish shaving."

  It was a bearded friend who pointed this quirk out to me. In the JW video of a couple of years ago where all the JWs are hiding in the bunker awaiting the end of the world, none of the brothers are sporting 5 o'clock shadows, or look as if they were unshaven after days on the run. There wasn't one bearded man among the whole group! So yes, you've guessed it. When the end of the system is upon them SHAVING will be the first thing on their mind. Possibly even waxing, who knows.

  i was feeling miserable, repressed, unfulfilled, with a great lack of self confidence & self esteem.

  Bible study my as& - It's a book study

  so when we used to roll up to someones house for the book study group, we would study a book.

  the jw's don't conduct bible studies, but book studies.

  dipping in and out of the bible as they seem fit..

  Our WT study conductor always got up on the platform and welcomed everyone to the 'Bible study by means of the Watchtower.'

  If the public talk chairman handed over by saying 'we invite Bro. Dick to take us into the Watchtower study.' He immediately started off by saying that 'this isn't a study of the Watchtower magazine but our Bible study by means of the Watchtower....'

  I remember he got hot under the collar with me because all I did was ask him why the organisation book referred to his position in the congregation as the 'Watchtower Study overseer' and the handbills we used to distribute listed the meeting as the 'Watchtower study'?

  I got told off for being picky, and my hand became invisible if I even put it up.

  If I try to flag up anything in the news about JWs and child abuse, my friends and family throw back that WT quote. To the ordinary witness it means that such things can not happen inside a "spiritual paradise".

  To which I say well why do elders serve on judicial committees dealing with all sorts of "perceived sins"? Because sometimes these things happen.

  But they reply back that only apostates would take the society to court because they don't care about bringing reproach upon Jehovah’s name.

  In other words, you can't win with this brainwashed attitude. The Society is right, me and everyone else is wrong.
